Stress is one of the most commonly used word in everybody’s life nowadays. Generally, the word stress is used when we feel that everything seems to have become too much and we are overloaded, overwhelmed and overworked. We become stressed out when we are under too much pressure especially with modern-day demands.
So, how can we cope with and reduce Stress?
1- Quietly begin the day with yourself.
What’s better than a refreshing cup of coffee right? Spending at least 5 to 10 minutes in the morning in silence and quite can help you create a peaceful tone for the rest of the day. So, grab your morning drink, some nice cupcakes or healthy snacks and start off the day positively.
2- Prepare for the day ahead.
It is important to know what is waiting you during the day and to prepare for it ahead of time. For instance, take 10 minutes every night to choose your clothing, prepare your lunch, and arrange your schedule. This task will not only reduce stress that could await the next day, but save you extra time.
3- Laugh More:
The saying “Laughter is the best medicine”, couldn’t be more true. Laughter releases endorphins that improve both the mood and the immune system. It also lowers levels of stress hormones, cortisol, and epinephrine, not to mention the fact that laughter also improves management of physical pain.
4- Eat gracefully and mindfully:
While this might seem like a stupid, silly idea, it’s actually a great one. Take notice while eating a daily meal or snack. What does the food smell like, feel like, and taste like? This will make you appreciate and enjoy your every meal more than ever. Just try it.
5- Take deep breaths.
Feeling a little bit extra? Take 5 minutes to breathe slowly and deeply when feeling anxious and stressed. Slow breathes reduce stress hormones in the body and lower both heart rate and blood pressure.
6- Take a walk or drive around:
Save some time in your day and go for a walk or just drive around. Going for a walk, or for a run, helps you take your mind off things bothering you. It also helps you channel the stress and pressure you face daily in a non-self-destructive way. This was you’ll be able to relieve anxiety and stress.
7- Enjoy music and any form of art:
Music has a unique link to our emotions, so can be an extremely effective-stress management tool. Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies. Also, recent studies show that music releases mood enhancing chemical to the brain, that being dopamine, which is responsible for happiness and pleasure.
8- Sleep Well
It is no secret that sleep plays a huge role in how our day turns out. Therefore, getting a good 8 hours sleep is quite important. It will be hard at first to get used to sleeping early and all, but just remember, it takes about 20 days for our body to get used to healthy and good habits.
Finally, through it all just remember that self-control and self-compassion are keys to building up good habits and leaving behind bad ones. So, look at yourself in the mirror and say goodbye to all the stress and anxiety because you are going to fight it.
