School might just be the place most likely to witness bullying incidents among kids and adolescents. According to an experiment made by Stopbullying, 49% of students ranging from grades 4 to 12 reported being bullied in a period of one month. Bullying happens in all schools and among all age groups. After all, we’ve probably all been bullied at some point in school, whether we noticed it or not.
So, here are 5 ways you can deal with bullies at school:
- Nurture friendships: Usually, bullies target those who lack connections because they see them as easy targets. So, surround yourself by your friends and those you can trust. After all, they are your support system!
- Build self esteem: Being a core component of bullying prevention especially at school, a healthy self esteem can help prevent bullying attempts. When you’re confident and capable enough, bullies will no longer see you as an easy target.
- Let it out: talking to someone about your problems or incidents can be very beneficial. A parent, a friend, or anyone you trust will always have their ears ready to hear what’s inside you so don’t hesitate to let it out.
- Stay calm and composed: this is probably the most efficient of all methods. If you remain calm and composed when someone is bullying you, the bully themselves will realize that you’re unbreakable. The best defense mechanism is to play it smart and stay calm.
On a last note, for all the victims of bullying at school, don’t let the bully get what they want. The want to bring you down and if you let them do that then you’ve not only given them what they want but you’ve also increased the extent to which the bully will repeat their actions again. So, put an end to it. Its a matter of choice and determination. I have full faith in you.
